Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Your Questions About Solar Energy — Answered
1. What are the benefits of installing solar panels in Sri Lanka?
Solar energy helps reduce your electricity bills, provides a sustainable power source, and offers a long-term return on investment. With abundant sunlight throughout the year in Sri Lanka, solar panels are highly efficient and environmentally friendly.
2. How does the Net Plus and Net Metering system work?
Under the Net Metering and Net Plus schemes introduced by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and Lanka Electricity Company (LECO), you can either offset your electricity bill or sell excess power to the grid.
Net Metering: Offsets your usage; excess units carry over.
Net Plus: You consume what you need and sell the rest at a fixed rate.
3. How long does it take to install a solar panel system?
A standard residential installation typically takes 1 to 3 days, depending on the system size and site conditions. The complete process, including approvals, may take 1 to 2 weeks.
4. Will my solar system work during power cuts (blackouts)?
On-grid systems do not operate during power cuts for safety reasons.
Hybrid and off-grid systems can provide backup power with battery storage. Let us know your requirements, and we’ll recommend the best option.
5. What is the warranty period for solar panels and inverters?
Solar Panels: Usually come with a 25-year performance warranty.
Inverters: Generally covered for 5 to 10 years, depending on the brand.
We only use CEB-approved, high-quality brands with manufacturer support.
6. Do I need to maintain the solar panels regularly?
Solar panels are low maintenance. Cleaning them once every few months to remove dust or bird droppings is usually enough. We also offer annual maintenance packages for your peace of mind.
7. How much does a solar system cost in Sri Lanka?
Costs vary based on system size (e.g., 3kW, 5kW, 10kW) and whether batteries are included. A typical residential system starts from LKR 600,000 onwards. We provide a free site visit and quotation.
8. Can I get a bank loan for solar panel installation?
Yes. Many banks in Sri Lanka offer Green Loans or Solar Financing Packages at low interest rates. We can assist with the necessary documentation.
9. Is approval required from the CEB or LECO?
Yes. Every grid-tied solar system needs prior approval from CEB or LECO. We handle the entire documentation and application process on your behalf.
